In particular, granola eaten with yoghurt will continue to grow in popularity, as it is regarded as being healthier than flakes—with retail volume sales of the latter set to see no more than marginal growth during the forecast period.
Retail volume sales of breakfast cereals will decline throughout the forecast period, with children’s breakfast cereals remaining the main source of weakness. Many local consumers prefer a quick breakfast of coffee and a pastry—sometimes in a café on the way to work.
Supermarkets continue to dominate the distribution of breakfast cereals, but e-commerce grew in importance throughout the review period (particularly in 2020 amid tight restrictions on movement), and it is likely to continue to do so during the forecast period.
