The rate of growth in retail volume sales of ice cream will accelerate modestly over the course of the forecast period. Demand will continue to shift from unpackaged offerings sold by roadside vendors to supermarkets, as the health and wellness trend deepens and supermarket chains continue to widen their store footprint.
Although local brands are most popular in Cameroon thanks to their competitive pricing and widespread distribution, imported brands are anticipated to improve their performance over the forecast period. Demand from Cameroon’s rising middle class is rising.
Although it is widely sold by roadside vendors, demand for single portion water ice cream through formal retail channels remains negligible in Cameroon, but it has significant potential for growth as a refreshing snack for both adults and children. However, as hygiene will remain a major concern (particularly in relation to water-borne diseases like cholera), manufacturers will first and foremost have to convince local consumers that their products are safe.
