The re-opening of retail stores stimulated the recovery of ice cream current value sales in 2022, which suffered heavily during the pandemic-related lockdowns. Ice cream manufacturers are expected to focus on driving sales primarily in the impulse segment to take advantage of a higher demand for eating out.
Patriotism will have a positive impact on the performance of artisanal ice cream in the forthcoming years, as consumers look to support local brands. Value sales of unpackaged ice cream and local packaged brands sold in foodservice outlets both stand to benefit with smaller, local ice cream manufacturers gaining marginal value share.
Rising production costs and inflation in the Eurozone will raise the average price of ice cream in Ireland, although this is not expected to have a significant impact on consumption levels. Nevertheless, consumers will be seeking out promotional deals and multipacks as the cost of living rises and disposable incomes are squeezed.
