Ice cream is set to witness continued retail volume growth over the forecast period, albeit at a gradually decelerating rate. Impulse ice cream is anticipated to retain the biggest sales share over the forecast period in both retail volume and value terms thanks to its active presence in small local grocers.
The performance of ice cream is expected to remain strongly influenced by seasonality even though the continuous expansion of modern grocery retailing in smaller cities and more rural areas will mitigate this factor. Modern grocery retailing will continue to attract a large number of consumers, especially those keen to secure special promotions and low prices.
Unpackaged ice cream is also set to become a source of growth over the forecast period thanks to the increasing number of ice cream parlours in the country. This will improve visibility of an increasing number of ice cream varieties and create increasing awareness of the consumption of ice cream for pleasure.
