Impulse ice cream is set to grow in popularity over the forecast period. On one hand it is seen as an enjoyable treat to relax with while out of the home, while on the other hand it also fits with the busy on-the-go lifestyles of consumers.
Take-home ice cream is not as developed as impulse ice cream, but it is projected to see slightly stronger growth in retail volume and current value terms over the forecast period. During the pandemic some consumers switched from impulse to take-home ice cream due to restrictions on movement and this helped to familiarise more consumers with take-home ice cream.
Consumers are expected to put the nutritional benefits of ice cream under the microscope over the forecast period, with the COVID-19 pandemic adding fuel to the already accelerating health and wellness trend. There are a growing number of small niche companies and shops that are aligning themselves and their products with this trend with some introducing plant-based ice cream.
