There will be moderate growth in retail volume sales of ice cream over the course of the forecast period. This will be supported by the easing of inflationary pressure, in addition to ongoing population expansion and urbanisation.
During the forecast period, ice cream will see the emergence of products with a healthier positioning, such as reduced fat and sugar, lower calorie offers, or the use of more natural ingredients, such as fruit. Dairy products are still perceived by local consumers to have a better nutritional profile than water ice cream, which will support strong growth in demand for single portion dairy ice cream.
Competition between traditional and modern grocery retailers will remain intense in ice cream. Boutique ice cream retailers, such as Bouza Roll EG and Dara’s Ice Cream, are rolling out new outlets that offer upmarket ice cream treats.
