A new deposit scheme that imposes a redeemable charge of EUR0.15 on soft and alcoholic drinks packaged in PET bottles was introduced in Slovakia in 2022.
While fresh milk products will face a growing challenge from plant-based alternatives over the forecast period, they should continue to benefit from a substantially lower rate of VAT (10% vs 20%). The competitive advantage this provides with regard to affordability will remain elevated in the short-to-medium term as high inflation drives up the cost of living in Slovakia.
