CAS Uruguay SA, a subsidiary of Mondelez International, is expected to see its retail value share rise in the forecast period as consumers move back to consuming medicated confectionery. Medicated confectionery is mainly consumed to help keep the breath fresh when in the office and pubs.
Small local grocers, which includes kiosks, will witness a rebound in retail value share in 2022. Retail volume sales of sugar confectionery has yet to reach the pre-pandemic levels seen in 2019 and will not surpass his level until 2025.
In response to the new labelling law it is expected that companies will look to reduce the variety of sugar confectionery products available in Uruguay over the forecast period with many of these products being imported. Those products which are imported mainly come from Argentina and Brazil where the new labelling law is not in force, therefore the packaging does not need to include the black octagons (where applicable).
