Growth is set to slow throughout much of sugar confectionery over the forecast period, with boiled sweets falling fastest and posting a negative volume CAGR. Lollipops and mints will also post poor performance, as hard sugar confectionery continues to lose to softer (chewable) variants.
New labelling legislation will come into force in December 2022, requiring front-of-package warning seals on certain packaged foods and beverages. The black circles will contain warnings of high levels of sugars, salt and saturated fats, as well as visual representations of these ingredients.
Pastilles, gums, jellies and chews will remain the most innovative category within sugar confectionery over the forecast period. For example, Super de Alimentos introduced a new line of tropical flavours in jellies, as well as gums/jellies in 1kg packs delivered through the player’s own e-commerce platform – this packaging size is still not available through modern retailers.
