Domestic producer Amilov produces a wide range of sugar confectionery under Crafers, which is set to lead sugar confectionery brands in 2021. The company’s product range includes boiled sweets, jellies, chews, marshmallows and other types of sugar confectionery that are popular with local consumers.
The longer-term economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic will result in many consumers seeking to limit spending. However, sugar confectionery products are generally affordable treats, and retail volume sales are expected to remain relatively stable across the forecast period.
Solid import growth, mainly from Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan, helped increase retail value sales of sugar confectionery over the review period. However, the Uzbek government increased import duties on sugar to 30% in 2020 to support and protect local manufacturing.
