In Poland, sales of oral care products slowed in 2020 as a result of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, although the impact from the pandemic was limited, reflecting the essential status of these items. In 2021, as a result of the relaxation of restrictions and an increase in socialising, there was a rebound and customers were again more interested in oral hygiene products.
When choosing products for taking care of their teeth, consumers in Poland are mainly guided by advertisements, fashions or hints from friends, rather than by the recommendations of dentists or hygienists. Bloggers constantly recommend premium toothpastes from a higher price range, hence the oral care market is observing a growing interest in premium brands.
According to studies, as many as 43% of Poles have serious dental cavities, and over 95% suffer from caries. Periodontal diseases, such as gingivitis, are also very common.
In the forecast period, value sales of oral care will continue to outperform volume sales, supported by ecological tooth brushing which is becoming increasingly popular. There are many products on the market which not only help to take care of oral hygiene but are also environmentally friendly.
Although the vast majority of products are packaged in traditional plastic materials, innovative planet-friendly solutions are on the rise. Plastic is slowly being replaced by other raw materials.
Polish customers are more and more willing to choose high-end oral care products and this trend will be reinforced in the forecast period. This is a result of increased consumer awareness, which is influenced, among other ways, by advertising campaigns in which such toothpastes are promoted.
