Daio Paper plans to stop one of its machines for paper and newspaper manufacturing in April 2023, following the installation of a new machine for soft packaged tissue in November 2022. This shows the player’s shift towards retail tissue from business paper use, which is predicted to continue shrinking as the world digitalises, with the exception of cardboard, which has been active for a decade as packaging due to the increase of retail e-commerce.
Single-use plastic is one of the typical targets of how to reduce a player’s impact on the environment and address sustainability concerns. Paper is being re-evaluated as a more sustainable material compared to plastic.
