12-month price inflation in 2022 was the highest that Chile had endured this century, reaching a 14% annual rate in August, and finishing the year at 12.8%.
Chilean legislation was early in adopting modern international standards regarding the labelling of products, mandating that packaging should warn consumers of a product’s high sugar, sodium, calories, and saturated fats content (among others). When implemented, this presented a problem for importers, which could no longer distribute the same product to the entire region, as they needed to relabel their products if they wanted to distribute them in Chile.
In 2010-2011, volume sales of gum were fairly evenly distributed between bubble gum and chewing gum. By the end of 2022, more than a decade later, demand was more notably in favour of the latter.
