In 2021, the product area saw a healthy recovery across nearly all categories, despite pandemic-related restrictions remaining in place, remote work and mandatory mask wearing.
During 2021, most people were wearing masks while out and about, and this impacted consumer needs. For example, there has been a boom in interest in transfer-resistant products, especially within facial make-up and lip products due to the mandatory wearing of masks.
Colour cosmetics is one of the pioneers in the use of social networks and other interactive elements to support sales. This was particularly useful during the pandemic, for example in terms of product testing with enhanced reality (AR), with which brands such as Sephora and L’Oréal have been working for some time.
Colour cosmetics rebounded much faster than originally estimated. 2022 is set to see further growth, however, at a slower pace.
