While low sugar or no added sugar already have a strong footprint in healthier snacking options in Denmark, more innovation within low fat and salt options in savoury snacks is likely over the forecast period as is the introduction of savoury snacks with a higher protein content. In order to positively impact the dietary habits of local consumers and to encourage them to reduce their fat and salt intake, the Danish Council for Healthy Food has demanded that manufacturers of savoury snacks package their snacks in smaller portions and pack sizes.
Vegan snacks will become more popular over the forecast period as veganism gathers pace in Denmark. As Danes become increasingly interested in their health, particularly in the wake of the pandemic, they will likely switch their basic food products to organic and vegan variants, and also look for healthier alternatives when it comes to foods that they only consume for enjoyment.
In addition to tightening EU legislation around trans fats already in place at the end of the review period, legislative pressure is expected to intensify around the sugar, fat and salt content in food products in Denmark over the forecast period, especially as the percentage of overweight or obese people in the country is set to continue rising.
