The penetration of traditional home laundry appliances, such as automatic washing machines, is relatively high reaching 71% of households, which indicated that most purchases in 2012 were replacement purchases, mainly upgrades to more advanced, newer models.

COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

  • The leading company in home laundry appliances in 2012 was Electrolux with its three brands: AEG, Electrolux and Zanussi, covering 24% of category volume sales. Electrolux is very successful on the Hungarian market based on effective marketing, promotion and price strategy. Electrolux is the brand that has laundry appliances from entry to upper middle price models. In addition, Hungarians still consider Electrolux to be a Hungarian brand and they rather express their loyalty when choosing Electrolux. Nevertheless, Electrolux also offers high quality at an affordable price and its in-store promotion brings extra customers through the door.

  • Sales of home laundry appliances are expected to see a slow volume CAGR of 1%, and a slight positive CAGR in constant value terms, although this expansion is rather more apparent in 2016 and 2017.
