  • Sales of home laundry appliances increased by 4% in volume to 271,600 units and by 6% in current value terms to HuF27.6 billion in 2013. Following the sustained shrinking of the market during the first part of the review period, sales recovered in 2012 and continued to increase in 2013. The overall performance was strongly influenced by automatic washing machines, the most mature segment, which provided 80% of combined volume sales. The penetration rate was traditionally high at 71% and its sales were driven mainly by replacements, both by upgrades to more advanced models and replacements of end of life appliances.

COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

  • In 2013, Electrolux Lehel Hutogepgyar retained its position as the leading company in home laundry appliances with the combined volume share of its three brands AEG, Electrolux and Zanussi reaching 25%, up marginally from 2012. With an overall volume share of 25%, Electrolux led sales in the largest category, automatic washing machines, and was particularly strongly positioned in automatic tumble dryers where its three brands jointly accounted for 36% volume share in 2013.

PROSPECTS

  • Sales of home laundry appliances are expected to see a volume and constant value CAGRs of 3% during the forecast period. With the exception of semi-automatic washing machines and Other home laundry appliances whose respective volume CAGRs will be -6% and -3%, all segments will experience sustained similar growth between 2013 and 2018.
