Despite the impact of the ongoing economic crisis, activity watch (digital) and smart wearables are two categories of consumer electronics that are expected to register strong sales increases in Argentina over the forecast period. Whilst neither of these categories was generating much in the way of sales as recently as 2018, the popularity of these devices has soared and is expected to continue doing so, not least due to increasingly intense marketing activity and, in particular, the entry of dozens of new brands.
The proportion of wearable electronics sold via e-commerce in Argentina increased substantially over the course of the review period and further growth is expected to be seen in online sales of these products over the forecast period as well. In the past, Argentina’s store-based retailers were not particularly interested in wearable electronics and this resulted in less than optimal presentation of these parks on retail shelves, while sales representatives were generally not very aware of the functionalities and features of such products, which made it difficult for them to explain their advantages to customers that were not among the core target consumer audience of very well-informed technology buffs and fitness enthusiasts.
As mentioned above, analogue smart watches and activity bands currently generate low volume sales in Argentina, with demand falling in both categories. These trends are expected to continue building over the forecast period.
