In recent years manufacturers have increased the number of BFY reduced caffeine beverages in the market. Coffee in all formats, ground, roasted, and instant was positively impacted by the two-month lockdown from mid-March 2020 as Peruvians had to stay at home.
Generally, BFY reduced sugar beverages saw healthy retail value sales growth over the review period. This is as a result of various factors.
The overall better for you beverages category is expected to see decreased constant retail value sales in 2021, but recovery is likely thereafter at sluggish constant retail value growth rates. The forecast constant CAGR is set to be considerably lower than that of the review period and value sales are not expected to recover to 2019 levels by 2025.
BFY reduced caffeine beverages, on the other hand, are expected to see retail value sales growth at 2020 prices over the entire forecast period. It is important to note that decaffeinated instant standard coffee is the only category within BFY reduced caffeine beverages to have significant enough sales to track.
BFY reduced sugar soft drinks continues to have the largest value share in in BFY beverages in Peru. However, despite the health and wellness trend the category is forecast to see a decline in constant retail value sales in 2021 and 2022, after which constant retail value growth rates are expected to be sluggish.
