The consumption culture for organic beverages in Russia remained undeveloped in 2018. Despite growing widespread interest in sports and healthy lifestyles, demand for organic products was not sustainable.

Organic beverages is mostly represented by organic fruit/vegetable juice in the country, which continued to hold a negligible share in both non-alcoholic drinks and health and wellness beverages in 2018. The development of organic beverages is highly dependent on consumer purchasing power and macroeconomics.

Government enforces regulations on organic products

The Russian government continued to form a system to regulate the production and sale of organic products in 2018, the main purpose of which is to provide consumers with reliable information. Systematic work on the creation of standards and certification regulations began around a decade ago although by 2018 there were still no regulations in Russia on mandatory certification of organic products.

The main players in the category remained imported manufacturers. Currently, according to data of the Organic Union of Russia, no more than 70 domestic food and drinks manufacturers were certified in Russia in 2018.

Slight slowdown in unit price growth during 2018

The unit price growth of organic beverages slowed down in 2018 in comparison with previous years. A slowly growing presence of these drinks in modern grocery retailers and specialists suspended any price rises.
