In 2022, Daco Bello, a nuts producer, partnered with the packaging company Saica Pack and bulk equipment vendor Bulk&Co to launch Solvo, a new bulk vending station, made out of 100% recyclable cardboard, in supermarkets. This allows a reduction in the plastic packaging used for products such as nuts, without compromising on the quality of the product.
Although retail volume sales of nuts are set to decline in 2022, following atypically high sales in 2020 and 2021, in total volume terms it is expected that nuts will perform well in the next five years, as consumption in 2022 remains higher than 2019, and growth is set to continue. This will partly be due to the strong recovery of foodservice amidst the reopening of the economy from 2022, as well the recovery of institutional sales, although to a lesser extent.
