Rising consumer health consciousness boosting sales

Positive health positioning means that nuts sales have been on the rise in France for over a decade. Recent studies that have reinforced the healthy reputation of nuts among French consumers include one by the National Agricultural Research Institute (INRA), AgroParisTech and a Californian University, which found that proteins from seeds and nuts are better for the cardiovascular system than animal proteins.

Nuts in line with new healthier eating trends

Nut consumption is very much in line with the shift among French consumers towards new eating lifestyle trends such as veganism, flexitarianism or “gluten-free”. In addition, the fact that, as with pulses, the government has advised increasing consumption of nuts to at least twice a week will also help to boost sales over the coming years.

Shift towards bulk distribution

The rise in the popularity of bulk sales within nuts is highlighted by the growing popularity of specialist retailers, like organic shops. This trend is also being supported by the very rapid increase in the popularity of coconut-based products, from coconut water and coconut ice cream to coconut oil and even coconut-based hair and skin products.
