PROSPECTS
Norway is a nation of coffee drinkers

According to a 2018 survey commissioned by Norsk Kaffeinformasjon (Norwegian Coffee Information), seven out of ten Norwegians drink coffee daily. While other types of coffee are gaining in popularity, coffee from filter coffee machines remains the clear preference.

Pods adapting to local preferences

In recognition of the dominance of filter coffee machines and the general local preference for larger cups of filter coffee, the leading manufacturers of pod coffee machines have tailored their offerings to improve the appeal of their appliances. One good example of this is the 2018 launch of Nespresso Vertuo and Nespresso VertuoPlus.

Multifunctionality a threat to volume growth

One trend that is apparent in product development in small cooking appliances is the addition of functionalities. Small cooking appliances are increasingly multi-functional as manufacturers seek to find greater appeal with individual demands and improve perception that they offer value-for-money.

COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE
Premiumisation of private label remains a major trend

Premiumisation is a highly evident trend shaping the direction of sales in small cooking appliances. Premiumisation is not just apparent in brand sales, but also private label.

Wilfa capitalises on local preferences

In comparison with neighbouring countries, volume sales of waffle makers are particularly high in Norway. Indeed, volume sales of waffle makers have consistently exceeded 200,000 units per annum since 2011.
