PROSPECTS
Changes in consumer preference and new product development drive the growth of fine champagne

In 2018, fine champagne was the best performing category in fine wines/champagne and spirits. It has become fashionable among high-income young adults to order a bottle of champagne when out clubbing or serve it during dinners with friends and family.

Limited editions attract first-time buyers

In the same way that Moët & Chandon Rosé Imperial and Moët & Chandon Nectar Impérial Urban Jungle have attracted new consumers to fine champagne, other types of spirits have also benefited from the launch of limited editions. Examples of recent launches include a Grey Goose vodka whose bottle was designed by the French artist Quentin Monge; Tequila Don Julio Reposado Dos Barricas, which has been aged in two different barrels, one being a Buchanan’s whisky barrel that gives a smoky taste to the tequila; Dom Pérignon Vintage 2009 champagne, which included luminous packaging created by the Japanese artist Tokujin Yoshioka; Buchanan’s 18 Special Reserve, produced in collaboration with Jan Hendrix.

COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE
Tequila brands lead fine wines/champagne and spirits

Tequila is part of Mexico’s identity and is a popular spirit across all income groups thanks to a wide range of products and prices. It is not surprising, therefore, that the two leading brands in fine wines/champagne and spirits are both tequilas, namely Don Julio and Herradura.
