In the years prior to the pandemic, concentrates showed a very conservative sales behaviour. Consumers with improved incomes given the strengthening of the middle class, tended to upgrade their consumption towards carbonates, juices or other RTD soft drinks.
Local brands have been showing greater growth in concentrates with Industrias Venado SA continuing to lead in 2021 with its brands Kris and Real. The player benefits from offerings that target different consumer groups, alongside maintaining price-sensitivity.
Like local brands, imported brands also benefited during the pandemic due to the increased demand. One of the most active brands was Zuko, distributed by Aidisa Bolivia SA.
Concentrates is expected to perform better over the duration of the forecast period than seen in 2021, however, most years are expected to see current value decline. As the pandemic comes to a gradual end alongside the pandemic, consumers will continually migrate back to other product areas such as juice and carbonates.
Seeking to attract consumers who like traditional local flavours, concentrates has seen the introduction of new products in recent years. For example, Refrescos Cocinero was launched by the company Molinos Pereira SRL and offers consumers quinoa, sesame, soybeans and peanut flavours.
The health and wellness trend was gathering pace prior to the pandemic but since has accelerated even further as more consumers are now aware of their overall health. As a result, many consumers are seeking for healthier alternatives within all of their food and drink products.
