Beer is projected to see good total volume growth through the forecast period, with the on-trade channel posting the highest CAGR, albeit from a lower base than the off-trade channel. Volume sales growth is expected to be driven by tourists, immigrants and local consumers’ return to pre-pandemic lifestyles, including foodservice.
Competitive pricing is expected to be a key driver of sales in the forecast period, with domestic products likely to fare well over imported counterparts – especially among lower-income consumers. Imported products retain some appeal to higher-income consumers, who are willing and able to pay more premium prices.
Dark beer, stout and non alcoholic beer are expected to be strong growth drivers in the forecast period. These categories are not saturated and have room for growth.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
