As the price of alcoholic drinks is now 30% cheaper through off-trade, beer volumes are expected to shift further towards at-home consumption. Beer is a category that will be affected the most, as it is associated with casual drinking, rather than drinking for special occasions (like wine or spirits) and does not encourage consumers to visit on-trade establishments for this purpose.
Following the removal of the 30% alcohol tax in Dubai, bars and restaurants were encouraged by the local government to lower their alcohol prices accordingly. However, this was optional.
Since e-commerce is an off-trade channel in the United Arab Emirates, the 30% tax reduction is also applicable here, meaning that online sales of alcohol are now much more affordable than in 2022. Beer is a popular category to order online, as it also includes non-alcoholic options from e-commerce platforms of supermarkets and hypermarkets.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
