As of 2022, India boasted a population of 316 million Millennials, representing a predominantly young demographic with significant potential for energy drinks. This has prompted foreign players' introduction of various energy drink options aiming to attract Indian consumers.
Since 2018, Red Bull, the frontrunner in the category, has been catering to the demands of health-conscious consumers in India by offering a sugar-free alternative to its flagship brand. Following suit, Monster Energy also relaunched its product line by introducing Monster Ultra, a citrus-flavoured energy drink with zero sugar content.
Energy drinks in India, long associated with luxury and symbolised by Red Bull, are transforming. While Red Bull remains a success story, the perception of energy drinks as a luxury product and their higher price point has limited their penetration in the market.
