The economic outlook is challenging in the face of inflationary pressure and slowdown in economic growth. Over the forecast period, consumers are set to continue to limit their spending by cutting out or back on non-essential products, which include energy drinks for many consumers.
New product developments outside energy drinks are predicted to intensify the competition to energy drinks over the forecast period. Beverages like sports drinks, functional bottled water and RTD tea and RTD coffee are likely to compete for share of throat by serving the same consumption occasions as energy drinks.
As in other soft drinks categories, reduced sugar and sugar-free alternatives are set to gain importance in energy drinks, in line with the burgeoning health and wellness and preventative health trends. Since the outbreak of COVID-19 and the introduction of the new labelling requirements, there has been a significant increase in awareness of the impact that consuming too much sugar can have on your health, such as increasing the risk of obesity and diabetes.
