While price will remain an important aspect when buying edible oils, especially as the average unit price is predicted to further rise (at constant 2022 prices) over the early part of the forecast period, health and wellness claims will play an increasingly important role in influencing the purchasing decisions of many local consumers in the coming years. With Indians becoming used to sedentary lifestyles, the country is starting to see a rise in incidence of obesity and cardiovascular issues, which is expected to encourage them to focus on foods with health and wellness claims.
The government of India is expected to continue to undertake various initiatives to increase domestic production of edible oils, especially palm oil, for which the country is heavily dependent on for exports. While in August 2021, the government announced an investment of INR110.
While retail volume sales of edible oils will stabilise heading into the forecast period before gradually rising, foodservice demand is set to fully recover to pre-pandemic levels by 2024 following the drastic declines of 2022 due to restrictions and home seclusion as the government attempted to control the spread of COVID-19. Foodservice, especially limited-service restaurants, are expected experience a further rise in footfall due to greater mobility and the stronger return of tourism.

Excludes: Unpackaged/bulk oils, i.e. instances where consumers bring an empty container or plastic bag to be (re)filled with cooking oil. Example: Minyak curah in Indonesia.
