Country Report

Executive Summary

Sep 2019
Industry boosted by growing in consumer spending power, World Economic Forum reports positive trends

Poland continues to be perceived as a safe country for travel due to low risk of terrorist attacks or natural disasters. In 2019, Poland also hosts the FIFA World Cup U-20.

Consumer demand for convenience boosts online development, hotel operators increasingly utilise technology

Strong development of online intermediaries and metasearch travel products, which enable easy travel organisation and provide all services necessary for a tourist trip, will have a positive influence in coming years, meeting the growing consumer demand for convenience. However, uncertainty related to the parliamentary elections in the autumn of 2019, and possible deterioration of the economic situation in the country, represent negative factors.

Passenger capacity glut results in airport shifts

In 2019, plans related to the construction of the Central Transportation Port (Centralny Port Komunikacyjny, CPK) and the administrative division of air traffic at Okecie airport, are under discussion. 2021 is set to see charter and low-cost airlines leave Chopin Airport, relocating to Radom-Sadkow Airport.

Growing air links and tourist initiatives set to boost number of arrivals

The number of inbound arrivals increased in 2019, which was a contrast to the negative growth seen the previous year. Growth in the number of air links, especially regarding low-cost carriers connecting to Poland, boosted tourism flows.

Rising consumer spending power and government initiatives to contribute to future growth

There is a high level of potential for growth in Poland’s travel market over the forecast period. Growing consumer prosperity and rising confidence are set to result in Poles making more trips, both around the country and abroad, for both leisure and business purposes.
