In the early forecast period, amidst high inflation and the cost-of-living crisis, it is expected that consumers will continue to opt for larger pack sizes of sweet spreads, as they tend to offer better value for money. For the same reason, private label sweet spreads are likely to retain consumer interest in 2023.
Growing health awareness amongst the local population is likely to trigger a rise in the significance of healthier jams and preserves; particularly jams that feature a maximum content of allowed sugar, which is 52% for local producers, due to an EU decree that the standardised maximum requirement of sugar in jam’s volume must be 60%. Artisanal, clean label as well as organic jam and preserves are also expected to see increasing relevance in Slovakia thanks to many consumers supporting the health and wellness trend, which will result in a switch away from too much sugar.
Retailers and manufacturers continue looking for options to make sweet spreads healthier. Reducing the sugar content is the obvious way to go.
