There are three main chemists/pharmacies chains in Chile; Salcobrand, Farmacias Cruz Verde and Farmacias Ahumada, and each specialise in a different product area, thus holding their niches. Salcobrand focuses on consumer health vitamins and dietary supplements, with frequent product launches for its private label range VitaminLife.

Omega 3 aids young minds to function

Omega 3 saw solid growth in 2019, thanks to the inclusion of children formulas and a growing awareness and education around the benefits of the supplement for young minds. Whereas Omega 3 is used by adults in Chile, it is a popular choice to help children focus at school, particularly those who are attention deficit, aiding their concentration levels.

Collagen value sales drops as the product is perceived as luxury

In 2018, most of the best-known collagen brands declined in retail current value terms, while MedCell’s new launches were particularly successful. 2019 saw a big drop in value sales for collagen, principally due to the price of the product making it a luxury item.

In 2019, a growing number of pharmaceutical laboratories in Chile sold their consumer health units, giving full focus to their Rx remedies. Pfizer was amount these, selling its consumer health units to Merck, with Boehringer selling its consumer health unit to Sanofi.

GNC continues to decline as Farmacias Ahumada focuses on beauty

2019 saw GNC renew its agreement as a private label within Farmacias Ahumada. However, Farmacias Ahumada continued to focus on private label beauty care, preferencing marketing and advertising for beauty above the GNC vitamin supplements.

Elcal-D creates education website to boost sales

Elcal-D launched an educative website informing the population of Chile about osteoporosis. Supported by the Chilean Osteoporosis Foundation, Elcal-D offered different treatment formats depending on the age and needs of the consumer.
