The COVID-19 pandemic continued to positively impact sales of dishwashing in 2021 as consumers spent more time at home and thus ate more meals at home, thereby increasing the number of dishes that needed to be cleaned. Bars and restaurants were also closed for a number of months in 2021, during which period only takeaway and home delivery services were available.
Automatic dishwashing remained the most dynamic category in 2021 with it also having the largest number of companies present. Aside from key international companies, such as Reckitt Benckiser with its leading Finish brand, there is also a strong local brand in the form of Ludwik.
E-commerce continued to see dynamic growth in 2021 with large numbers of consumers either unwilling or unable to shop in person. Consumers have developed greater confidence in the safety of shopping via the internet and now have more faith in the quality of the products on offer online, while there have also been improvements in home delivery services as well as payment methods.
Sales of dishwashers saw strong growth during the pandemic but there is still plenty of room for growth. As consumers learn about the benefits of having a dishwasher at home demand should grow.
Further investment in new product development and innovation is anticipated to be seen in dishwashing in the form of new formulas, new fragrances and even new formats. Dishwashing, in particular automatic dishwashing tablets, is a highly competitive area of home care and as such new product development is an important factor in helping brands to stand out from the competition.
