On-trade volumes account for a large share of total beer volumes, but saw double-digit declines in both 2020 and 2022, when pandemic-related restrictions were implemented. As restrictions eased at the end of 2022, on-trade volume sales of beer are expected to see a rebound as restaurants, bars and pubs reopen.
Volume sales of craft beer are on the rise, and showed resilience during the pandemic. With the trend of premiumisation in beer, craft beer is expected to have great growth potential in the near future, although it only currently accounts for a negligible share of total beer volumes.
Non alcoholic beer is not new in China, but has been receiving more attention in recent years as the demand for health is increasing amongst consumers, especially females. Non alcoholic beer is usually considered a healthier option than regular beer by consumers, because it has a lower ABV content.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
