As Lithuanians spent more time away from home in 2021 than they did in 2020, growth in the overall air care category is expected to be slightly lower in 2021. Car air fresheners is the exception as, with the easing of restrictive COVID-19 measures, consumers have been using their cars more to travel to work, school, shops and social activities.
Spray/aerosol air fresheners saw the weakest performance in volume terms in 2021 as products in this category are considered to be unhealthy. Instead, demand for natural and essential oils has increased, such as the local brand Aromama, which produces natural essential oils and balms that can be used to strengthen immunity health.
Multinationals Reckitt Benckiser and Procter & Gamble maintained their clear lead of air fresheners in 2021 with their well-known brands Air Wick and Ambi-Pur. Reckitt Benckiser was just marginally ahead of second-ranked Procter & Gamble in the year.
Air care is expected to record further moderate growth over the forecast period. In Lithuania, home fragrances are increasingly popular to mask smells, help keep rooms fresh, and to create a cosy atmosphere.
Sales of natural essential oils, which disinfect, boost immunity and treat colds, have risen sharply in Lithuania during COVID-19 as the pandemic has greatly strengthened people’s health concerns. This trend is likely to continue over the forecast period as consumers who discovered natural essential oils will continue to use them for freshness and aromatherapy in the years to come.
