Carbonates to record stable growth during forecast period

Carbonates is expected to record lower off-trade volume growth over the forecast period compared to the review period, owing to a shift in consumer preferences to healthier options, like bottled water. Many middle aged and older consumers are looking to reduce their sugar intake, while the working class and more educated consumers are increasingly opting for alternatives to carbonates, like juices.

Low-calorie carbonates increased market presence

An increasing variety of low-calorie cola and non-cola carbonates have appeared on the market. Coca-Cola Light and American Cola Light continue to be the most successful low-calorie offerings, owing to their long standing in the category.

Distribution is set to be more dynamic through modern retail channels

Source du Pays boosts share through repackaging as well as fierce pricing strategies

Source du Pays has now introduced all its product lines in 330ml cans. The canned format was launched in 2017, and appears to be doing well in the market, with many competitors trying to compete with canned drinks sold at much lower prices.

Distribution to benefit from resilience of independent small grocers

The review period was characterised by the entry and expansion of supermarket chains in Cameroon. However, independent small grocers remain by far the most important off-trade channel for carbonates.
