Other than long-standing reduced sugar cola carbonates, reduced non-cola carbonates have also made an appearance – an example of reduced sugar lemonade/lime is Pepsi’s 7-Up Free, launched in 2021, and an example of reduced sugar other non-cola carbonates is Coca-Cola’s Schweppes Zero Sugar Pineapple Mint and Citrus Raspberry, launched in Q4 2022.
In the mature carbonates category, new packaging serves as an upfront indicator of brand development that is immediately visible to consumers and signals relevance even if there is no product innovation/reformulation. For example, San Pellegrino’s carbonated citric juices (Aranciata Rossa and Pompelmo in regular orange carbonates, Limonata in regular lemonade/lime carbonates) underwent a global packaging makeover in 2022, with a shift from shorter to taller cans, which retained the 330ml volume.
