PROSPECTS
Orange juice remains the preferred option for most local consumers

Uruguayan consumers tend to be very traditional with their consumption habits. However, this changed to some extent over the review period as many became more willing to try out new products.

Consumers seek lighter variants

The juice category changed somewhat over the review period in Uruguay. More brands were launched and juice gained a wider presence in different retail outlets.

Increasing differences in unit price

Juice manufacturers try to attract consumers through attributes such as quality and price, with the category thus offering an array of products across the price spectrum. Products which are positioned as high in quality and which come in attractive packaging can cost up to four times more than juices which are considered standard or low quality offerings.

COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE
Cooperativa Nacional de Productores de Leche remains the leading player

Cooperativa Nacional de Productores de Leche (Conaprole) remained the leading company in juice in 2018 in both off-trade value and volume terms. The company specialises in dairy products, being the biggest in Uruguay, but over the years has also ventured into many other categories under its Conaprole umbrella brand.

Frigorífico Modelo not too far behind the leading player

Frigorífico Modelo continued to rank second in juice in 2018, not being too far behind Cooperativa Nacional de Productores de Leche, particularly in terms of volume sales. The company offers the Dairyco juice brand in many different flavours.
