PepsiCo Foods is set to maintain its strong lead in savoury snacks in 2021, with innovation a strong part of its strategy, both in its existing ranges and introducing new products that meet the health and wellness trend. This was the case with its Off The Eaten Path launch during the review period, a new snack made with a vegetable base, including black and white beans, peas or crunchy rice, which has a modern and premium image.
The forecast period is positive for savoury snacks, with value growth continuing to be positive, leading to a CAGR of 4%. Savoury snacks are an important part of Spanish life, and consumers ensured they had sufficient stocks early in the epidemic by purchasing from retail outlets, and this continued into 2021.
The experiences of the outbreak of COVID-19 is set to reinforce the importance of healthy lifestyles and diets among many consumers, and the health and wellness trend will therefore intensify in savoury snacks going forward. Consumers will continue to seek organic, natural and vegetarian products with ingredients such as beans, peas and rice without additives or preservatives, and manufacturers, for their part, will continue to offer products that meet these needs.
Despite the anticipated strong performance of retail in savoury snacks in 2021, only two channels are expected to increase their share over the course of the year: supermarkets and e-commerce.
