In 2022, volume sales of alcoholic drinks saw robust growth, primarily driven by the retail channel, with all categories reaching or surpassing pre-pandemic sales. However, on-trade sales, despite exhibiting higher growth rates, did not fully recover to 2019 sales levels due to the rising cost of living, which put household budgets under pressure and forced consumers to prioritise and reallocate their expenditure.
