Hair care sales in Slovakia continued their value recovery in 2021. Conditioners and treatments, salon professional hair care and shampoos all achieved above-average growth in their current value sales in the year.
Solid/bar shampoo was already a notable new trend in the review period in Slovakia. Sales of these products are still relatively small and largely represented by a small local company focusing on natural and organic ingredients.
The Coop Jednota food chain has expanded the line of its brand with Biova cosmetics. The new cosmetics brand currently includes 21 daily products, including shampoos, shower gels, bamboo ear sticks, hand cream, hair gel, feminine wash gel and toilet paper.
Generally steady growth is expected for hair care in Slovakia over the forecast period, supported by more consumers returning to their workplaces and educational institutions and spending less time at home. Slovaks will also socialise more frequently.
Changes in hair care in Slovakia in the forecast period will be mostly driven by concerns around the category’s ecological footprint and how to reduce it. The reduction of plastic will be the key focus of many multinational companies and 100% recycled PET plastic (already achieved by Elsève and Lovea).
In the forecast period, sales of conditioners and treatments are expected to see above-average growth. Intensive at-home treatments for hair saw strong growth in the review period.
